面又积极与朝臣文士交往，并通过刊行《三家事典》《大明英烈传》等书籍的方式为武定侯家族营造良好的舆论氛围。1 结果不仅巩固了自身地位，甚至还升为翊国公，提升了家族爵位。2
结语
明代勋臣家族的袭爵之争并不罕见。秦博曾将明代勋臣家族袭爵之争分为嫡庶支间争袭、嫡支长幼间争袭、庶支长幼间争袭以及庶支远近间争袭四种类别，并将武定侯家族的袭爵之争归入庶支长幼间争袭。3 事实上，武定侯家族的袭爵之争还具有两方面的特殊『性』。首先，明代勋臣家族的袭爵之争大多或牵扯朝臣，或纯属家族内部事务，皇权很少在其中扮演重要角『色』，而在武定侯家族的袭爵之争中，袭爵权的归属甚至存亡自始至终都与皇权密切相关，早期尤其如此。其次，明代勋臣家族的袭爵之争持续时间一般不长，也很少出现袭爵权归属存亡的反复，而武定侯家族的袭爵之争持续了半个多世纪，历经五朝四帝，几经反复才尘埃落定。
这种特殊『性』是由以下两方面因素决定的: 首先，郭英的长子郭镇与次子郭铭均早逝，使得郭英去世后家族长期缺乏适龄袭爵者，以至武定侯爵位空缺长达二十多年。这一方面使郭玹以及后来的袭爵者缺乏牢固基础，从而令武定侯的爵位缺乏有效支撑，另一方面使武定侯家族内部很难形成掌控爵位的稳定力量，这场袭爵之争难以彻底平息。
其次，武定侯家族与皇权的关系格外密切。郭镇是明□□之女永嘉公主的驸马，郭玹妹妹是明仁宗的贵妃，这种跨朝代与皇室的联姻关系在明朝历史上并不多见。4 而永嘉公主与郭玹妹妹这两位皇权的代表又相互对立，使武定侯家族的袭爵之争格外复杂。虽然她们的影响在景泰年间后不复存在，但已给这场袭爵之争打下深刻的皇权烙印。
这种特殊『性』体现出的明代勋臣家族族权与皇权的关系耐人寻味。一方面，虽然勋臣家族的族权来源于皇权，但仍拥有一定的独立『性』。如果不是由于郭镇及其二子早逝与郭珍患疾造成武定侯长子后代袭爵的困难，郭玹很难利用妹妹所代表的皇权袭爵。郭玹袭爵后，虽然永嘉公主曾希望利用自己所代表的皇权为郭珍夺回爵位，但并未得到朝廷的支持。这些都能反映明代勋臣家族族权相对于皇权的独立『性』。
另一方面，明代勋臣家族族权与皇权的至尊『性』相对立，一旦勋臣家族内部发生矛盾，皇权总会趁机介入，达到削弱乃至于消灭族权的目的。明英宗与明宪宗都曾试图以武定侯家族的袭爵之争为借口剥夺武定侯家族的袭爵权，明孝宗甚至曾因此剥夺郭良官职，都是这种关系的体现。
不过，皇权本身并不独立。皇权的存在离不开臣民的支持，因此在某种情况下也会对勋臣族权妥协，明英宗在天顺初年为巩固地位而主动让郭昌袭爵便是明证。皇权受制于其他因素，因此勋臣家族可以通过整合多种资源的办法来影响皇权。郭良父子充分整合朝臣文士等资源，为自身袭爵营造了良好的社会氛围，最终达到袭爵的目的。总之，武定侯家族的袭爵之争充分体现了明代勋臣家族族权与皇权之间的微妙关系，也对武定侯家族的发展产生了重要影响。
